About Sheila Fleet Jewellery

Sheila Fleet OBE is one of Scotland’s leading designers and makers of fine jewellery, with over 50 years’ experience in the jewellery industry working with silver and enamel, yellow, white and rose gold, and platinum. All of Sheila’s jewellery is designed and made in her workshop in Orkney, Scotland.

With a passion for her island environment, Sheila continues to design new collections that reflect Orkney’s wonderful sea, sky and landscape colours, and the islands’ rich history and heritage.

Background

After graduating from Edinburgh College of Art, Sheila began a career as a designer that has spanned over 25 years working for several companies and winning awards along the way.

Sheila Fleet Jewellery has come far since the company’s beginnings in 1993. After starting out in a converted garden shed, Sheila now employs some 55 skilled craftspeople in a dedicated workshop. In 2018 she opened her flagship showroom and café in a beautifully renovated church, located next to the workshop. She also has five dedicated retail shops within Scotland, located in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Loch Lomond. Sheila Fleet Jewellery is one of Orkney’s biggest and best-known exports.

Sheila received an honorary degree from Edinburgh College of Art and, in 2013, was awarded an OBE for her services to the UK jewellery trade.

Sheila Fleet’s involvement with Scottish Gold

Sheila has visited Cononish Gold Mine in the west of Scotland on many occasions, visiting for the first time back in 2008 with her late husband Rick where they were given a tour by Chris Sangster from ScotGold. Sheila has always had a keen interest in Scotland’s geology, and enjoyed polishing Scottish agates while at art college.

In June 2017 Sheila was delighted to be announced as one of only two jewellers to be authorised to use Scottish Gold from Cononish. Since then, Sheila Fleet Jewellery has worked to create multiple pieces in Scottish Gold, including a variety of engagement rings and wedding bands.

‘After half a century as a designer and maker of precious jewellery, it’s exciting to be able to say my jewellery is mined, designed and made in Scotland. Almost any of my existing designs can be made in Scottish Gold. It is very special to be working with Scottish Gold and I look forward to creating many more unique collections of rings and jewellery that reflect the country I love. It can’t get much better for me!’ —Sheila Fleet, 2019.
